Summary
We just finished the apostle Paul’s second letter to Timothy, and there the apostle makes a couple of really important points about the Bible, and in his context, specifically the Old Testament. Like it is ‘the word of truth’ (2 Tim 2:15); “…the Holy Scriptures, … are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim 3:15); and “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim 3:16-17). What might come to the modern mind is questions around the messy and sinful behaviour of some of the Old Testament heroes… What are we supposed to learn from them? So in the next few week’s we’ll look at:
- Abram and Sarah, Impersonating unmarried people, Genesis 12 (Sep 29th)
- Jacob and Rebekah, Identity theft, Genesis 25:21-34 (Oct 6th)
- Jacob, lies and favorites, Genesis 29:15-Genesis 30:12 (Oct 13th)
- Saul’s necromancy, 1 Samuel 28 (Oct 20th)
